Enhance Your Daily Skin Care Routine at Home with Biologi

As self-isolation and social distancing become the new (albeit temporary) norm amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, one of many things that we’re currently missing are our regular beauty therapy treatments.

Like plenty of other natural beauty enthusiasts, our access to beauty therapists and salon treatments is limited, leaving us to take things like our hair and skin care into our own hands.

Luckily, it’s not impossible to get healthy, radiant skin at home. To explain how you can step up your daily skin care routine at home during these uncertain times, we’ve partnered with Lucy Macdougald, a Dermal Specialist at Biologi. Read on to discover her top 4 tips for an effective at-home daily skin care routine.

1. Feed your skin

As you may already know, your skin is your body’s largest organ. Once you start thinking of your skin in the same way you would your other organs, like your liver or your gut, you’ll realise it’s important to give it healthy nutrients to keep it thriving. In short, you need to look after it from the inside as well as the outside.

Eating plenty of fresh foods and drinking water improves skin immensely, as do oil- and water-based skin care products. Most skin types thrive on a combination of water- and oil-soluble skin care ingredients, so consider adding a water-soluble serum like the Bd Face Luminosity Serum and a nutrient-rich facial oil like the Br Organic Rosehip Oil to your daily routine.

Top Tip: Remember that oil and water don’t mix! Apply your serum before your facial oil to allow your skin to absorb it fully.

2. Start a skin fast

If you’re working from home, chances are you’re settling into a new routine with less face-to-face time with other people - and less need to wear a full face of makeup everyday. Now is the perfect time to wind back your skin care and makeup routines and give your skin a break.

Most people don’t realise that using too many products can actually harm your skin by stripping it of its natural oils. Mixing skin care ingredients that don’t work well together by layering products can also lead to harmful reactions including an upset skin pH level. In this case, giving your skin time to naturally rebalance its pH levels and heal itself is one of the best things you can do.

3. Keep up your cleansing game

While you’re following a simple skin care routine and reducing your makeup use, also take a look at your face cleansing routine and see how it can be improved. No matter what skin type you have, thoroughly cleansing your skin of any makeup, dirt, or product residue every night is essential.

Try a simple cleanse in the morning with a muslin cloth and hot water, followed by a double cleanse at night. While you’re at it, don’t forget to exfoliate once a week, being careful not to overdo it - too much cleansing and exfoliation can strip your skin of oils and hydration, too!

4. Try face rolling & Gua Sha

Even though you can’t visit your favourite salon for the time being, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy a facial at home. Most skin care enthusiasts have heard of face rollers and Gua Sha - and now is the perfect time to use them as part of your skin care and self care practice.

Commonly made from precious stones such as Jade or Rose Quartz, face rollers and Gua Sha have taken the skin care world by storm, and for very good reason. Both skin care tools lift and contour the face and help serums and oils penetrate deeper into the skin’s layers, increasing the efficacy of skincare products. Plus, regular use of rollers and Gua Sha stimulates circulation and oxygen flow to the skin, in turn brightening your complexion.

The right skin care can double as a good self care practice

During these unusual and unprecedented times, it’s important to practice self love and self care in whatever ways you can. Establishing a sense of regularity and setting aside time for yourself as part of a daily skin care routine can have a calming, grounding effect, and can help keep your skin healthy and looking great.
