We have been told time and time again how important it is for us to get eight hours of restful sleep each night, but if you're anything like me then you'll know that's easier said than done! I have four kids and am running a business, so by the time I've finished for the day and have put the kids to sleep I'm still buzzing, which makes it so much harder for me to fall asleep. Getting enough sleep is so important for our overall health and wellbeing, as well as our productivity, and we just can't afford to be feeling groggy, unrested and zoning out at work or at home all the time. Sleep is a crucial period of time for our bodies to regenerate and refresh, so it's incredibly important to beat sleeplessness as best we can with the help of natural supplements and essential oils.

How to get to sleep naturally

One of the biggest issues when it comes to bedtime is that we are all so highly wired that it can seem impossible to switch off. Try to have at least one hour before bed where you don't watch the TV or look at your phone - these devices emit a blue light that actually stimulates the mind, so screen time tricks your brain into thinking it's time to be up and about. I've found that in the same way you do for the kids, adopting a 'bedtime routine' has really helped me switch off. I'll have a magnesium bath to help me unwind and relieve any muscle tension, brew a calming herbal sleep tea and then head to bed, and if I have trouble getting to sleep or keep waking up, I inhale my special essential oil blends to stop the stress of not being able to sleep and get back into that relaxed state.

Whenever possible before bed I love to soak in a soothing Amazing Oils Magnesium bath. Magnesium does so many wonderful things for both the body and mind, and it's particularly great before bed as it works to help relieve almost any tensions that may cause you to toss and turn at night. Add one cup of these pure Magnesium Chloride flakes to your bath and soak in the goodness each night.

To use, place the Nasalette just below your nose and breathe in deeply by counting to five.

Kiwiherb Valerian Root Extract
When I am feeling incredibly restless I like to dilute some of the Kiwiherb Valerian Root Extract into a glass of water. As recommended by our Naturopath Mel, Valerian Root Extract is actually known as nature's sedative because it encourages both your mind and body to relax.
