During the cold months, sensitive skin tends to worsen as it’s exposed to changes in temperature as well as heating. To combat this dryness, I love using highly moisturising products that contain essential oils that deeply hydrate and restore. One of my favourite oils at the moment is Borage Oil! It’s packed full of fatty acids and anti inflammatory properties.

What is Borage Oil?

Borage Oil is a golden yellow coloured oil extracted from the borage wildflower, often referred to as the starflower. This hydrating oil has been used for hundreds of years both internally and topically to treat inflammation. Borage Oil has some of the highest levels of Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) which is an essential fatty acid that the body can’t make on its own.1

When taken internally, Borage Oil has been used to treat both long and short term conditions including PMS symptoms, stress, diabetes, hormonal imbalance and rheumatoid arthritis pain.1 It has also been used to ease menopause symptoms, reduce inflammation and promote breast milk production.

What are the skincare benefits of Borage Oil?

As Borage Oil has such high levels of GLA, it has incredible hydrating benefits for skin, perfect for sensitive skin issues. When the skin isn’t able to produce enough protective oils, it can easily dehydrate and result in inflammatory flare ups. When this occurs, applying Borage Oil topically can provide your skin with the essential fatty acids that it’s lacking.1
