Natural toothpaste, like the mainstream versions have many different types and options to chose from. Each tube has its own unique benefits - some look, feel and taste like the traditional supermarket brands and others have quite an unusual taste or texture. I have summarised these wonderful benefits right here:

Why should you be using natural toothpastes?
The answer is simple - we really shouldn’t be putting any synthetic chemicals into our mouth. Our gums are like sponges and can easily absorb nasties like SLS's, any artificial colours, flavours and fluoride. Switching to a natural toothpaste means that you can really clean your teeth without swallowing any hidden nasties or have chemicals absorb into your gums! Plus they taste great too!

Best whitening toothpastes!

We have so many amazing natural toothpastes available on Nourished Life but one of my current favourites is the Weleda Salt Toothpaste. This toothpaste is created using natural sodium bicarbonate which is really effective at fighting plaque build up. It helps keep your gums healthy, promotes oral health and neutralises harmful plaque acids in your mouth. This toothpaste is also made using natural sea salts which helps balance your mouth’s pH to naturally fight against cavities and polish your teeth. It has a grainy consistency and salty flavour that might be a bit unusual to use at first, but once you try it I’m sure you’ll be hooked!

Another natural whitening toothpaste to try is the Comvita Whitening Toothpaste. This toothpaste uses all natural ingredients like birch tree extracts to whiten teeth without any bleach or harsh abrasives! Combining these natural ingredients with baking soda, this toothpaste will whiten teeth, remove stains and freshen breath.

Most unique toothpaste formulation!

Toothpaste formulation isn’t something that we often think about when making a purchase. However it’s definitely something we should consider! The Weleda Ratanhia Toothpaste has an unusual chalky formulation which may seem strange, but actually works really well to clean teeth without damaging the enamel. It also tightens gum texture to keep your whole mouth healthy and clean!

The Cedar + Stone Choc, Orange & Coconut Tooth Tonic has a chocolatey and orange flavour which may well appeal to younger brushers! It Contains antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and mineral-rich ingredients like Kaolin Clay, Turmeric, Horsetail and Birch Tree extracts along with Cacao, Virgin Raw Coconut powders; and Sweet Orange essential oil, it helps to kill nasty bacteria and, soothes gum inflammation.

Best toothpaste for sensitive teeth!

There’s nothing more frustrating than having sensitive teeth! Comvita have a Gentle Toothpaste that is perfect for sensitive teeth. It relies on the moisturising benefits of Betaine (from sugar beets) to soothe sore, irritated teeth and gums.

Another option is the Grants Mild Mint with Aloe Vera Toothpaste. The aloe vera (known for it’s healing properties) in this toothpaste is really beneficial for anyone with gum or teeth sensitivities! It also has a mild mint flavour that isn’t overbearing.

Both Comvita and Grants look, feel and taste most like the traditional ones!

Want to try something different?

Who says toothpaste has to always taste like boring old peppermint? The Dr Bronner’s All in One Toothpaste in Cinnamon is the perfect way to add some spice into your teeth brushing routine! Featuring ingredients such as aloe leaf juice, coconut and cinnamon oil this toothpaste is really effective at removing plaque"¦ and tastes delicious!

The Riddells Creek Organic Toothpaste not only has a very unique soft (almost runny) texture, their Lemon version is another unusual flavoured toothpaste that I’m sure you’ll love. It’s refreshing, citrusy and will leave your breath smelling fresh all day long!

The new charcoal toothpastes like My Magic Mud Whitening Toothpaste - Peppermint are certainly a new brushing experience. Deep dark black pastes made from activated charcoal are deep cleansing for the whole mouth, sucking impurities from the gums and tongue; and providing a natural abrasive cleaning experience from the charcoal, diatomaceous earth and bentonite clay. This toothpaste comes in mint, cinnamon, peppermint or wintergreen and removes plague whilst whitening teeth without damaging the enamel. We find these best whilst used in the shower!

Best mouthwash!

Want a mouthwash that works as well as regular supermarket ones, but is all natural? Then you need to try out the Riddells Creek Organic Mouthwash. It’s freshening and promotes healthy gums with ingredients like aloe vera, peppermint, spearmint, thyme and parsley! In my opinion it’s also the best tasting mouthwash on the market!

Another great mouthwash is the Weleda Ratanhia Mouthwash. This mouthwash is a concentrated formula that you just add to water before swishing around in your mouth. I find that it works really well to not only provide fresh breath but also target any unpleasant ulcers or minor sores in your mouth!

Best toothbrushes for adults!

My favourite toothbrush that we have available is the Binchotan Charcoal Toothbrush. It’s blended with soft bristles and high quality charcoal that helps remove plaque and help avoid bacteria from growing on the brush. Nobody wants that! The Binchotan charcoal also works to absorbs chlorine and any other chemicals from tap water while releasing natural minerals and alkali ions. That’s something you won’t get from a plastic supermarket toothbrush!

Another toothbrush I like using at the moment is the Life Basics Charcoal Bamboo Toothbrush! This gentle, soft bristled toothbrush is available in two types; soft bristle for sensitive teeth or medium bristle. It’s 100% organic, biodegradable and eco-friendly. I also love using this charcoal infused toothbrush because the bristles are really flexible and clean even the hardest to reach areas!
