1. Do I need a day and a night cream?
It's a good idea — especially if you have dry or ageing skin. Your daytime moisturiser should be more lightweight, and contain ingredients to protect and brighten your complexion during the day, like vitamin C and SPF.

Our skin regenerates overnight, so you want to apply a richer, more nourishing moisturiser that will deeply hydrate and repair the skin. If you have specific skin concerns, look for a night cream with active ingredients, like plant-based retinol to even out skin tone and combat breakouts.

2. Do I need to use a moisturiser if I have oily skin?
Yes. It's tempting to skip moisturiser if you have oily or acne-prone skin but remember that the purpose of a moisturiser is to hydrate your skin and strengthen the skin barrier. When your skin becomes dry and dehydrated, it responds by producing more oil — leaving you with breakouts and even shinier skin. To keep your oily skin hydrated and happy, go for a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser that won't block pores.

3. What ingredients should I look for in a moisturiser?

4. Do I still need a moisturiser if I use a facial oil?
It depends on your skin type. If your skin is naturally plump and hydrated, you might be able to get away with only using a face oil. But if you have dry, dehydrated, pigmented or ageing skin, you want to use a combo of both. Here's why.

Face oils purely contain oil, so they're great at nourishing, conditioning and replenishing the skin. But they don't hydrate — that's where moisturisers come in. Moisturisers contain 50% to 90% water, and they work to deeply hydrate the skin and strengthen its barrier — and a strong barrier protects your complexion from dehydration, environmental aggressors and UV-induced damage. Your best bet? Apply a face oil, then lock in all that goodness with a moisturiser.
