Benefits of Rosehip Oil

What is Rosehip Oil? I know you have heard of this natural skin care ingredient, but not everyone knows exactly what makes Rosehip so good for our skin, so I've put together this guide to the benefits of Rosehip Oil.

By now I am sure you have heard of Rosehip Oil - it’s an incredible ingredient in natural skin care and makes an appearance in so many of my favourite goodies, but what makes it so special? Far from being just another natural face oil, Rosehip Oil is actually incredible for all skin types because it’s rich in so many amazing nutrients and can help with everything from acne to stretch marks.

What is Rosehip Oil?

Rosehip Oil is a nourishing plant oil extracted from the fruit or seeds of Rosehips - the fruit of special types of rose bushes. Rosehips are usually red or orange in colour and can look like berries, Crab Apples or Pomegranates. They appear after the Rose flower or blossom has fallen away, and some types are even edible.1

Rosehip Oil properties

Essential fatty acids
Rosehip Oil has a high concentration of essential fatty acids, or Omegas, including Oleic, Linoleic and Linolenic. These fatty acids work to support the skin's natural regeneration process, encouraging healthy skin cell turnover and healing for improved skin texture and plump, smooth and taut skin. Our skin cells love Omega 6 for targeting scar tissue, so Rosehip Oil is ideal for delivering a burst of protection to damaged skin.2

Vitamin C
Rosehip is also naturally rich in Vitamin C - actually, Rosehip was used during World War II to help combat illness (in place of fruits such as Oranges which were unavailable at the time). Rosehip is actually known for having almost 60 times the levels of Vitamin C than other citrus fruit! Vitamin C is can target free radical damage and premature ageing as well as pigmentation, and promoting healthy skin cell turnover for bright and even skin tone.2

Vitamin A
Vitamin A, also known as Retinol, is known for its ability to help fight those signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin A is a powerful anti-ageing ingredient, helping to form and maintain healthy skin cells, but may be too potent as an ingredient in natural skin care for hypersensitive skin types. Rosehip Oil is actually naturally rich in Vitamin A in the form of Beta-Carotene, which is ideal for sensitive skin types as it is easily absorbed and works as a gentle antioxidant to help brighten skin tone and help protect skin from environmental damage.2

Lycopene
Lycopene is a Carotenoid compound that is naturally found in red fruits and vegetables like Tomatoes, Beetroot, Pomegranate and Rosehip. It's actually an antioxidant packed with powerful benefits, working to protect the skin from environmental damage and help repair skin. It's also what gives Rosehip Oil its vibrant orange colour!2

Rosehip Oil uses

One of my favourite Rosehip Oil benefits is that it can actually be used all over the body for so many different purposes. A natural anti-inflammatory, Rosehip Oil could be perfect for all skin types, including dry, mature, oily, combination, acne prone and sensitive. It is particularly good for hydrating, smoothing, firming and plumping up skin with all of those nutrients packed inside, and may work to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, sagging and sun spots. Rosehip Oil is also known for its powerful ability to target hyperpigmentation and scarring.

How to use Rosehip Oil

To use Rosehip Oil, mix a few drops in the palm of your hand massage into skin on the face and body as desired. It also makes a nourishing hair oil and can be used on cuticles to promote strong nails. You can use Rosehip Oil at any time of the day - it's often best used both morning and night for best results.
