Edible Makeup Good Enough to Eat
Is your lipstick toxic? If you have not switched to natural makeup yet, then let me tell you, there is no time like the present! In this next blog I have put together a guide to the best non toxic lipsticks and natural, edible makeup.
One of the main reasons I began my search for the world's best toxin free beauty products so many years ago was because I realised I had no idea what ingredients were in my makeup! I wanted to be able to read my lipstick ingredients and see that it was just about clean enough to eat — which led me to food grade makeup! While I definitely would not recommend actually eating your makeup (on purpose), natural and edible lipsticks do exist and they are completely free from all of the nasties which can be found in other beauty products. Non toxic lipstick is about as safe and clean as beauty gets, plus it works just as well, if not better, than the mainstream stuff.
What is lipstick made of?
While ingredients lists will differ from product to product, mainstream lipsticks may be coloured with synthetic dyes, and have even been known to contain heavy metals such as lead — studies have found that many popular lipsticks actually may contain traces of lead... 1
If the idea of lead in lipstick is enough to prompt you to do a New Year makeup drawer clean, choose a toxin free lipstick without lead instead! I have found so many amazing, lead free lipsticks throughout my Nourished Life journey, and they all utilise the natural colours of minerals and fruit pigments rather than heavy metals. This means these natural makeup products aren't just toxin free, they're also packed with beneficial vitamins and nutrients for our skin!
One of the pioneers in natural beauty is the brand 100% Pure — founder Susie Wang actually innovated new ways to use natural pigments in makeup, getting the absolute best parts out of fruit and vegetables and straight into our makeup! Susie actually spent 10 years developing an original and patented plant pigment process, perfecting the best method to juice, sift and isolate pigments from fruit for maximum benefits.

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented® Lip Gloss — Naked
I just adore the 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented® Lip Gloss in Naked. Naturally tinted using Blackberry and Raspberry fruit pigments, this beautiful sheer peachy shade is universally flattering and so perfect for summer! This formula is also ultra creamy and smooth thanks to nourishing Sunflower Vitamin E and Cocoa Butter so it just glides right on and moisturises lips.
100% Pure Cherry Lip & Cheek Stain
For long lasting colour, I also love the 100% Pure Cherry Lip & Cheek Stain, which is a tinted liquid that gives both the lips and cheeks a soft rosy wash of colour thanks to the natural pigments of Pomegranate and Beetroot! Buildable and water resistant, this moisturising formula is perfect for everyday wear. Just dab a small amount onto lips and cheeks and and blend for a rosy glow.
Luk Lip Nourish Lipstick — Rose Lime
The Luk Lip Nourish in Rose Lime is an amazing natural lipstick made with natural food based ingredients like Avocado and Sesame Seed Oils. 100% Pure Black Tea Ultra Lengthening Mascara — Blackest Black
My edible makeup obsession doesn't end with lipsticks — one of my favourite mascaras is made with all natural ingredients too! The 100% Pure Black Tea Ultra Lengthening Mascara in Blackest Black is naturally coloured from Black Tea leaf pigments, Cocoa and Blackberries, so it not only smells absolutely delicious but is also rich in antioxidants so it actually works to condition the lashes too. Gentle and smudge resistant, this bestselling natural mascara lengthens, separates and glosses lashes and also contains conditioning ProVitamin B5 and Vitamin E to help prevent breakage and encourage stronger lashes.
