When it comes to vitamins, we often hear about the benefits of vitamins A, C and D... but what about Vitamin B! Did you know that out of the thirteen vitamins our bodies need, eight of them are made up of the B-group? No wonder we feel so tired and fatigued when we are lacking it! With this knowledge in mind, it's so important to ensure we're getting enough each day!
What are the health benefits of Vitamin B?
There are eight types of vitamin b including thiamin (B1), riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B6, folate and vitamin B12. Although Vitamin b can be found in food, it's easily destroyed by alcohol and cooking.1 When coupled with the fact our bodies can only hold a limited amount of vitamin b, it's easy to become deficient! That's why adding a supplement can be beneficial.
Vitamin b has some pretty amazing health benefits. These vitamins have been linked to reducing the likelihood of a stroke and developing anemia.2 Vitamin B6 in particular is important for healthy blood and reducing the risk of heart disease.2 Vitamin B9 (folate) on the other hand is crucial for healthy babies as it works to encourage healthy brain development and growth!2
Vitamin b can also work to ease stress, treat anxiety and depression, relieve the symptoms of pms and aid memory.3 It's a great energy booster and can even help to make neurotransmitters like serotonin!3 It really does help to pep us up by putting the B into Bounce!
How can Vitamin B help your skin?
Vitamin B also has some incredible benefits for the health of your hair, skin and nails. A deficiency can lead to dull skin, wrinkles, rashes, acne, hair loss and weak nails.4 Vitamin b (particularly biotin) can strengthen hair and help maintain the texture. It's also beneficial for treating hyperpigmentation, helping skin breakdown oils and promoting faster healing.4
How can you get more Vitamin B?
During times of stress or increased physical or mental activity it can be beneficial to supplement a healthy and varied diet with extra vitamins and minerals. Meeting these dietary requirements each day however, can be difficult. This is even more challenging if you are deficient, have poor digestion or a condition that impairs your ability to absorb certain vitamins or use particular vitamins!
