Your Guide to the Benefits of Kombucha
By now I am sure you have heard about the benefits of Kombucha and seen it for sale, but did you know that it makes an amazing skin care ingredient too? To help you find out everything you need to know about Kombucha, I've put together this guide to its internal and external benefits.
Kombucha is one of those health drinks that has become so popular that I have seen it for sale in the supermarket and even on tap in cafés, but did you know that it's actually more than just a healthier alternative to fizzy drinks? It is fast becoming a staple in my pantry thanks to how easy it is to make it yourself. Kombucha has a range of benefits for internal health, such as helping to support gut function, but it's actually also an amazing ingredient in natural skin care thanks to its nutrient rich properties.
What is Kombucha?
Kombucha has actually been made for thousands of years as a drink designed to support inner health. It's made through a special brewing process by fermenting Tea and Sugar with a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast, also known as a 'SCOBY'. Through the fermentation process, the SCOBY yeast converts the sugar into alcohol, then the bacteria change the alcohol into organic acids, resulting in a low-sugar and probiotic, vitamin and antioxidant-rich fizzy drink which has a light, refreshing and slightly tart taste. Kombucha is known for its ability to support gut health and digestion, which in turn can positively affect your skin, boost the immune system, and help reduce sugar cravings, and brewing your own Kombucha at home can be a really cost-effective way of creating your own health supplement, which you can even flavour with your favourite fruits.1 It's also an amazing ingredient in skin care, helping to restore balance to inflamed, irritated or acne prone skin.
